Fastener-installation press
PENNENGINEERING, DANBORO,
PA. A new multi-bowl option for
the Pemserter Series 3000 fastener-installation press enables an operator
to install up to four different types
or sizes of self-clinching nuts, studs,
and standoffs in automatic feed
mode without tooling changeovers.
Benefits include easier operation,
increased flexibility, quicker fastener
insertions, and improved productivity compared with a standard
machine using four fixed bowls and
requiring manual tooling changes.
The new option integrates the Series
3000 press with a QX Turret Tool
system (handling the quick tooling
changeovers automatically) and up
to three expansion bowls. The press
additionally features full servo electromechanical actuation technology
without hydraulics to optimize ram
function and achieve ideal repeatable
speed and force for proper, accurate,
and permanent installation of fasteners in thin metal sheets. Features
include PC-based programming
interfaces with Windows operating platforms for job versatility and
customization, menu-driven touch-screen controls, descriptive screen
alerts, and on-screen multi-media
instructional videos. The Series 3000
press is designed with a 24-inch ( 61
cm) throat depth, and can realize a
ram force up to 16,000 lbs./71.2 kN.
The press is CE certified.

Polypropylene wall caps
FSH INDUSTRIES LLC, MIAMI, FLA.
The company’s X Vent Box wall
caps come in various configurations
to cap the exterior vents for kitchen
cooktops, bathroom fans, dryers,
and other building air exhausts.
They are made of 15 percent fiber-
glass reinforced polypropylene with
additives for UV resistance and
flame retardance. The material has
a UL 94-VO flame spread rating,
and the manufacturer claims that
the box will maintain its shape in
temperatures to 235 °F before start-
ing to warp. Fasteners are marine-
grade stainless steel. The company
says a patented design places the
louvers at an angle of 31. 5 degrees,
so exterior air pressure will keep
the damper closed and keep it from
tapping. The boxes are shipped
fully assembled. They consist of
component parts so they can be
adjusted in the field. Consider-
ing the company’s home town, it
is not surprising that the boxes are
designed to withstand the horizon-
tal rain of hurricanes.

High-power industrial laser
SPECTRA-PHYSICS, SANTA CLARA,
CALIF. Providing 10 W of 355-
nanometer output at 90 kHz with
a short pulse width of less than 23
nanoseconds, the Pulseo 355-10
is the newest addition to Spectra-
Physics’ family of Q-Switched
diode-pumped solid state industrial
lasers. Intended for applications
such as crystalline silicon photo-
voltaic solar cell manufacturing
processes (including wafer scribing
and dicing, drilling, and mark-
ing), this industrial laser may also
be employed for microelectronic
applications, such as hole drilling,
flex circuit cutting, flat panel manu-
facturing, ITO patterning, LED
substrate scribing, silicon wafer
dicing, and low K dielectric scrib-
ing. Its short pulse width and high
peak power, combined with higher
repetition rates, strive for higher
throughput with less damage to the
parts. The laser is also designed for
field serviceability, with replaceable
components such as diodes, fiber,
and output window.

Solid state accelerometers
SHERBORNE SENSORS, W YCKOFF,
N.J. High-precision MEMS-based
solid state accelerometers in the company’s new A700 series are designed
to measure single- or dual-axis vector
acceleration in applications where
space is limited. The A700 series is
ideal for applications such as data
acquisition systems, crash records,
flight simulators, fatigue life monitoring and prediction, and mass transit
monitoring. The accelerometers are
available in ranges from +/-0.5 g
to +/- 5.0 g, with dc response capabilities. An advanced MEMS sensor accounts for air damping,
therefore enabling the
transducer to perform in a wide
range of temperatures. The
A700 series also
incorporates positive mechanical stops
in a lightweight (less than
50 grams) durable aluminum
alloy package. The accelerometers are
designed to operate from an unregulated dc power source, with a self-test
feature on both axes. They are supplied with an integral shielded sensor
